Beverly Talakua
For Beverly Talakua (Visual Communication Design, UW) and Amy Cai (Interaction Design, UW), growing up as children of immigrants has meant witnessing firsthand the uncertainty, fear, and harmful narratives surrounding immigration and citizenship. They sought to use their skills in visual design to create a space that uplifts immigrant voices, honors lived experiences, and empowers people to feel seen, valued, and heard.
Approaching this work with deep intention and care, Beverly and Amy spent time listening to individuals’ stories, conducting research, and reflecting on the responsibility of telling these narratives with sensitivity and respect. This project is a tribute to the parents who made countless sacrifices, to the communities who raised them, and to the generations before who laid the groundwork for a life of choice.
As they prepare to step into the design world, they carry forward these stories and the strength of their family story, grounding their creative work in purpose, empathy, and perspective.
ABOUT THE CREATORS
It’s a space built on real stories, lived experiences, and the power of community. In a time marked by fear, uncertainty, and political rhetoric around immigration, this platform exists to rehumanize what has always been human — our journeys, our struggles, our pride, and our roots. Each story shared here is an act of resistance, a celebration of identity, and a reminder that no administration can erase the strength and beauty of who we are. This is for our families, our communities, and for each other.
